Last weekend, after driving around running errands and looking for Jeep parts, I noticed the left rear wheel on my Audi was scorching hot and covered in brake dust. The car also developed a vibration after a certain period of drive time and it felt like the rotors were severely warped.

TL;DR - Left rear caliper likely stuck. Purchased rear pads from local parts store. Ordered new caliper online.

The next day, I get tracking via email. I discover the caliper I ordered is somehow being delivered to the company I bought it from and not to my house. Great. Gotta call and get that corrected.

Then, in the midst of waiting and taking a second glance at the situation, I realize that the brake line is 16 years old and is showing some signs of cracking. So, I order a new brake line.

Fast forward to today (Friday the 13th) and I’ve got the new caliper and the new brake line. In the midst of (trying) to take off the old brake line ... this happens:

Kinja'd!!!

This photo was taken after I got the new caliper on and brake line re-assembled

The bracket that holds the hardline completely sheered off and separated from the car. F@*K me running.

So, knowing the power of zip ties... I have “re-attached” the bracket to the car:

Kinja'd!!!

I hope this shit holds. I’ll have to seek JB weld assistance at some point.

Also, as if that weren’t enough, the DMV refused to transfer the title of the Jeep Grand Cherokee I just bought because the date of sale looks (to them) like it was “modified”. Their fix is to get a signature and date from the previous owner on a corrections sheet.

So, tomorrow morning I’ll be driving an hour just to get a signature from the previous owner of the Jeep.

FML.

always love getting mangled titles for the junk that i buy. just recently went to title one that had gotten signed in the wrong spot by the seller. luckily i noticed and got it signed in the correct spot too, then signed OVER the wrong one. about nearly turned into a fiasco at the tag office, but managed to get by with a “statement of fact” saying what happened. i highly recommend using small town tag offices with old ladies working there, that would rather be anywhere else.
